Fiber Art Focus:
Guild Description:
The Palomar Handweavers and Spinners Guild was founded as the San Dieguito Handweavers Guild in 1952, later changing their name to the Palomar Handweavers Guild. In 1986, a group from the guild began to demonstrate at AGSEM. The partnership with AGSEM led to the building of a 4,000 sq ft Weavers Barn and 3,000 sq ft Spinners Cottage on the museum grounds. These buildings house hundreds of looms, spinning wheels and a collection of fiber related artifacts from around the world, and are the current home of the Palomar Handweavers and Spinners. An annual Fiber Arts Festival held at AGSEM on the first weekend of October attracts more than 4,000 visitors to its many booths displays, demonstrations along with yarn an equipment sales.
